After our legal wedding, it was time to host our Welcome Lunch at a nearby vineyard. First, we grabbed a bottle of crémant and made the 10-minute drive through vineyards to the neighboring town of Juillac.
La Roberterie is a private home & vineyard owned by a friend & neighbor of my aunt & uncle, and it was where we’d meet up with all our guests for the first time. The grounds are breathtaking, with vineyards lining the long drive to the house, which overlooks more vineyards and a valley below. Before we arrived, our guests had been given tours of the vineyard & winemaking barn by the owners and were starting to try the whites, reds, roses & sparkling wines produced onsite.
After saying hi to everyone, we sat down for a picnic lunch packed in tiffin tins by the chateau chefs – little meat pies, salad with quail eggs & buttermilk dressing and brownies for dessert.
Though we arrived in style, we left La Roberterie in a van so that my parents and Bill’s parents could take a little joy ride in the red car.
