London, Are You OK? These Party Bars Are Out of Control

My youngest sister’s 40th birthday is coming up and we’re heading to her favorite city to celebrate: London. I haven’t stepped foot in London since 2006 when I went to visit said sister who was studying abroad. I was fresh out of college myself, poor as hell, and we slept two people in a twin size bed in her dorm for about a week. I ran out of money on day two, and while looking at my last stash of cash, decided it was better spent balling out on afternoon tea at Harrod’s for the two of us, than trying to make it last for the rest of the trip. Guess I’ve always had an abundance mindset; more money will always come (somehow)! Might as well enjoy the moment.

For this trip, we’re letting my sister take the lead on planning since she’s been back several times since 2006 — and it’s her birthday. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help myself and poked around our Airbnb in Shoreditch on Google Maps to see what’s in close proximity.

The verdict: a bunch of weird shit. Like, wild, wacky, wackadoodle places. I thought the Seaport in Boston had the monopoly on activities-while-drinking (mini golf, F1 racing, darts, ping pong), but London takes it to another level.

Here’s a trio of some real bizarro “party bars” in London:

Balli Ballerson

saturdays - Ballie London - book

A “ball pit cocktail bar” where you can drunkenly play in a glow ball pit for adults.

Hijingo

Hijingo - State Of Play

Billed as a “dystopian bingo adventure” with Squid Game-esque challenges.

Alcotraz

London's Best Corporate Team Building Venue | Alcotraz

A prison-themed bar where you can wear an orange jumpsuit and drink in a cell.
