Asia Honeymoon Packing List

[I’ll be updating this post as we continue to pack & prepare for our 2025 trip]

It’s never too early to start a packing list, amirite? As someone who thrives in the Notes app, I’m a list-maker. I may even get more joy out making the list than crossing things off the list. All that to say, this list is for a trip that’s not until 2025 and I’m not even the least bit embarrassed by it.

Luggage Essentials

Our first trip purchase (after booking the flights) were these Helly Hansen 50L duffel bags ($55/ea). I’m usually a ride-or-die Away carry-on girly, but my sister and her husband are major travelers who have used these bags for years and I’ve always been a little jealous. A big enough duffel bag that can also be used as a backpack, these feel like they’ll transition well from island-hopping around Thailand to riding the Shinkansen in Japan. Nobody wants to be lugging a carry-on onto those inter-island Thai speedboats, you know? Also, they’re big enough to store a lot of stuff but still small enough to be used as a carry-on. And I won’t feel like a backpacker about to keel over from a giant pack.

January 2025 update: After testing the Helly Hansen duffel backpack out on our 2-week Christmas in the Caribbean trip, I’m even more confident in this choice for Asia. It’s very comfortable to carry and despite me packing it differently and more stupidly every time I had to pack up, everything still managed to fit.

Wardrobe

This is where things get a little tricky. The first week in Thailand, it’ll be 90 degrees and and I’ll be on an island. In Japan, we’ll have everything from highs in the upper 50s, to rain and possibly snow and sub-freezing temps while visiting Nagano.

Accessories

  • Packable Hat: It’s foldable, adjustable and has a chin strap so it won’t blow away, $25.

Tech

  • Apple World Travel Adapter Kit: This kit includes 7 adapters to power your MacBook, iPhone, iPad anywhere in the world, $29.
  • Insta360 GO 3: I haven’t pulled the trigger on this yet, and not sure I have the patience to shoot & edit video, but it’s on my radar, $319.
